The Reason My Internet Has Been So Slow

Yup. I was downloading Starcraft 2.
Their distribution strategy is sheer genius and saves them tons of money on physical shipping costs… in fact, the only “cost” is a completely plugged up internet connection.

Haha.
Love it. Peer-to-peer is EPIC.
Will you be playing?

I’m not into starcraft or gaming, but a write up describing their distribution strategy would be sweet. Unless it’s just that they are offering as a download….
They are offering a download days in advance of the actual launch date.
“f you intend to purchase StarCraft II digitally, downloading the client now will allow you to simply pay and play when digital copies of StarCraft II go on sale.”
This should quell the opportunity for a bandwidth meltdown on release day. The download is over 7GB. Plus, my guess is they are charging the same as retail with no manufacturing or packaging overhead, and very, very minimal shipping overhead.
Releasing the binary early is a terrific no-brainer, non-technological solution to a common technological problem… throughput constraints!

So, I’m not much of a gamer, but I thought you might be interested in how to recreate the logo in Blender, the free open source multimedia package.
