Work Space Geekery

Posted by John Saddington on Mar 4, 2010

I’ll be the first to admit it: I’m a geek.

I love video games, cartoons, comic books, and pretty much anything the internet. I also like collecting action figures.

There, I said it.

So, what do you have around your desk area that would instantly proclaim “geek”? Do tell, do tell…

  1. Tom

At home, I’ve got mounted three mounted Lord of the Rings posters (from each of the films) and all six Star Wars mini-posters framed.

At work, I’ve got several programming posters, books, and an over-sized Superman coffee mug.

    Oh boy.

  2. I have always assumed having a tangle of extra cords, a couple of extra internal hard drives and some random computer screws speaks for itself.

  3. At work: on my left: Brainstorm Special Report : Virtualization – the Virtual Majority. On my Right: a Unix Fuel pump communications controller, a network hub and a POS/Pinpad, and a receipt printer without the cover. In my bag – a Copy of the Google Story ;)
At home, I have a miniture T-Rex on my speaker and next to him a 2 inch tall man in a suit of armour – with removable sword. I can stop there.
but I am not a geek.

  4. John, I am intrigued – what is the book on the right (guarded by ironman)?

  6. I’m huge LOST/Nintendo geek, so I have all sorts of related toys. I also recommend Thinking Putty and Nerf guns.

Where to start? How about the Boba Fett coffee mug, the C-3PO candy jar or the Star Wars figures “for my son to play with” ;-) Maybe the Mighty Mugs Darth Maul and Mace Windu (‘cuz they are made from 100% recycled AWESOME). Along with my dashboard Jesus on my speakers. And now for Easter I have brought back out the jelly bean pooping easter bunny. Let’s put it all in one shot http://tweetphoto.com/13212958

  8. I have a Rubik’s Cube, a working replica of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada” sign, and a Jawa Bobble Head.

  9. Here’s my version of “wall art”….You probably won’t know what Ski is unless you’re East of the Mississippi River…

  11. Wow. I didn’t realize that I was a geek til just now.

I thought it was completely normal to have this type of stuff around your desk.

    Weird, random stuff really.

  16. I tend to keep my personal a work life separate. If the 3 laptops (OS X, Windows & Chromium), dual monitors, switches, routers, multiple hand-held devices, and 80′s-era calculator watch aren’t enough to indicate that I’m a geek, maybe this guy is: http://www.twitpic.com/16qefj
